A Guide to the Runes

A phrase from the journal caught Jenny's eye. Walker between the worlds. Her heart began to pound as she deciphered the dense black writing around it. Something illegible and then becoming a Walker between the worlds myself, if the danger wasn't so great. There are several methods to--something else illegible--but the one that I consider the most likely to succeed would be the circle of runes. . . .
"Runes," Jenny whispered. The magical alphabet that Julian and her grandfather had used to pierce the veil between the worlds. She looked at the drawing below the writing. "Michael, I've got it."
From The Forbidden Game, Volume III: The Kill

According to Norse mythology, the god Odin,in an effort to learn the secrets of life and death, hung himself upside down from the world-ash tree (Yggdrasil), impaled by his own spear. During the ordeal, tourmented by pain, hunger, and thirst, he spied some Runes below him and seized them. Afterwards he passed the secrets of the Runes on to mankind.

Each Rune is a pictorial representation of a particular natural mood or condition. The name of each Rune has been chosen with care, because it has to begin with a particular sound.

In the Old Norse language the word "Run" means "secret writing." In Gothic the word "Runa" means a "secret" or "whispher." In Old English we find the word "Roun," and in German the word "Raunen." So all these languages agree that the Runes reveal "whisphered secrets."

The Runes pinpoint your hidden fears and the unseen influences that affect your future. The interpretation of a Runes cast will in no way absolve you from the responsibility of choice. It will, however, point out the alternative to a course of action. The Runes are, in every way, a constuctive medium. They describe the positive forces that are working on your behalf -- for your own good. Runes will pinpoint bad influences too, but they will always suggest positive actions that will help to reverse the adverse forces.
