If I could do one thing with the world, I'd turn the entire human race into empaths. Make everybody feel everyone's pain. If we could all truly empathize with each other, there would be an immediate end to most human misery. Famines would stop as rich countries fall over themselves to send aid..."L. J. Smith

Cassie's reflection: LJ Smith is one of my favorite authors. I have been reading her since she published The Vampire Diaries. All her stories deal with some aspect of the occult and that is the major draw for me. I also think she is an amazing writer, who I hope sticks around for a long time.
Her words flow off the page and create wondrous worlds and believable characters. They are people you can identify with, want to be, hate, or even fall in love with. The character I most closely relate to is Cassie Blake, from The Secret Circle, and I found I developed a higher understanding of Cassie due to a pilgrimage I made in July of 1997 to Salem, Massachussetts. Cassie and her friends, already somewhat real in my mind, became more so on that day I spent wandering around Salem.
I must admit, though, I like her trilogies a lot more than her current series, Night World. The reason why that is so is because in her trilogies, the focus was on one character for three books and you became one with that character. Plus, the books themselves were longer. Her new series of books is about a new person every time and I just don't feel as close to the characters in the stories. Not that the stories aren't good, because they are. I just am not given enough time to get to know the main character. Go visit our forums to let us know how you got involved with LJ Smith and what's your favorite and why!
