Who administers this FAQ?
That would be Poppy North of the Night
World, Jeanette N. in real life. She can be contacted here for any inquiries, although she requests that
she be given a period of time when answering your emails. Compared to the real life and
work, she would say that replying emails is not on her top 3 list :) However, if you feel
that your question / answer / comment is a matter of extreme importance, give her a holler
on the main list. One last thing, she also wants to say that she has no patience for junk
email, so don't bother sending in any.

What do the
flowers mean in the Night World?
They symbolize the Night World and it's
different creatures.
Lamias - Black Irises
Witches - Black Dahlias
Made Vampires - Black Roses
Werewolves - Black Foxgloves
[back]
Shouldn't
the flowers for the Shapeshifters be foxgloves since werewolves are shapeshifters?
Not necessarily since werewolves may be
shapeshifters, but not all shapeshifters are werewolves. It is my opinion that werewolves
by its right are another race in the Night World. So the shapeshifters might have their
own flower.

What do you do on this
list?
We discuss the works of LJS, we make new
friends, and we exchange writings that we wrote....
[back]
What kind of
people will I meet?
You'll get to meet all kinds of people,
from different countries, races, and religions. You'll also get to meet people who share
similar interests as you. That is why we recommend that you make an introduction of
yourself when you first enter the list, so as that we can 'identify' kindred spirits.

How did
the Night World originate?
(Written by Cassie, our
foundress) I have been a
fan of LJS since I read the Vampire Diaries in 1991. I loved her work and ranked her up
there with my favorite authors: Poe, Montgomery, and Pike. I am also a member of the
Midnight Club - an online forum of people who share writings and discuss life. We are all
drawn together by our love for the writings of the Oh Great One (Poppy's nick not mine) -
Christopher Pike. One day, the discussion turned to other authors we enjoy and several
members wrote in, saying how much they enjoyed LJS. Wags (Scott, founder of TMC) asked
Drew if she was still willing to form The Secret Circle, a club for LJS. Well, I wrote in
and said I would do it, but I couldn't use Secret Circle as I have an online coven support
by the same name (several members from NW are in it btw) I chose Night World and asked for
those interested. Immediately, I got response by at least 15 people. I looked into a
listserver and set aside ideas for a website and then e-mailed those people again. We all
chose names and thus, The Night World was created....

Where can you find
the book covers of soon to be released LJS books?
Either you can find them on our site or a personal favorite of mine
happens to be at amazon.com.
[back]
What topics should
we avoid discussing about on the list?
Comparisons to other clubs, controversial
topics, anything on the application to join, no asking of 'How and why did you choose your
nicks?' to 'What is everyone favorite book?' All these info can be found on the site. Also
keep in mind that the list is made up of people from different cultures, religions, races,
countries. So be respectful! Go to Taboos
for more information.

What is this Unity
thing that I keep reading about?
It is from the Night World series, used by
the witches to identify each other, and we have adopted it as sort of our call sign /
ending. We sign off, as, for example in my case : Unity, Poppy.
[back]
What are those
Power Over
things I keep seeing?
Those are again quotes reserved ONLY for
charter members. For instance, my quote is 'Power of Planets Have I Over Thee' and it may
be used only by me and it applies to the other charter members. However, whether they want
to use it in their signatures is their own personal choice.
[back]
Why do I see
LJS's books with different covers?
Sanjulian does the covers of Night World.
However, it came to my notice recently that a different publisher, Hodder, is publishing
Night World books under a different cover. The reason being mainly because of different
publishers in different countries. To the best of my knowledge, these are the books with
different covers.
To view the covers of
different books, go to
here
Some of the members from the listserver
collect LJS books with different covers, so if you spot any, announce on the list, and mayhaps, someone will contact
you about it.
[back]
How do I go
about looking for older LJS books?
Well, apart from trying your local
bookstores, you can always try secondhand bookstores. Or if you simply can't find any, let
Cassie know. She'll place your addy, name
and the books you want on the posting board. And when certain members find them, they'll
know where to contact you.
[back]
Is it a must for
me to write stories to stay in the club?
No. Absolutely not.
[back]
Why is
Spellbinder called 'Enchantress' in UK?
I'm not really sure, but I think it has to
do with the fact that the NW books in UK are under a different publisher. They could have
wanted to change the title as they have changed the covers of the NW books over there as
well.
(I think a NW member once emailed me and
told me that it was because there was a book called "Spellbinder" that was
published before the NW book was released in the UK. Therefore, the publisher changed
titles to avoid confusion.)
[back]
Who is Red
Ferns father?
We have no idea. It was never stated, and
so no matter how much it is speculated, we will never know unless LJS addresses it in a
future book. And no, we don't think it's Thierry either since it was actually stated in
"Soulmate" at page 109, right at the bottom.
[back]
Who is the
"witch, who isnt a witch"?
Again, we have no idea. It will be
addressed in Strange Fate, so be patient all right? And its my personal
opinion that that person isnt someone from any of the previous NW books. I reckon
the witch will be a new character.
[back]
Do Ash and
Mary-Lynnette ever get together? I mean, in Soulmate and Dark
Angel, Ash brings up Mary-Lynnette, and it seems that they aren't together... What's
going on!?
And again, the answer is we
have no idea. I suppose they do. In Dark Angel, Ash mentioned to Gillian that he met Mary-Lynnette
last summer. In the story, the season is winter, so technically, Ash still has
two more seasons to go? And in "Soulmate", sorry, can't help with that. If
you've got an explanation, email it to me
[back]
In "The Secret
Circle", what's the deal with Faye's parents?
The deal with Faye's parents is that LJS's
editor was probably not paying attention to the details on the deaths of Faye's parents.
One moment it was her mother, than her father... See here for more details.
[back]
I'm having some
problems with a certain member. What should I do?
The best thing to do would to email
Cassie, the NW Elders or the NW Weerien Council. Or all three. Let us handle the problem,
that's one of our jobs anyway :) But if you feel uncomfortable emailing us, you can always
approach your Dark Angel, and ask that he / she help you out.
[back]
What is taking LJS
such a long time in releasing "Strange Fate"?
Haven't been following your NW emails huh?
As of August 2001, Cassie most recently sent an update to the list, and I've also placed
an explaination on the main page of the FAQ.
But hey, if you need more info, check this page for information.

What is a Dark
Angel?
Please see this page for information.

Now, how
exactly do you pronounce ____'s name?
We have had plenty of discussion regarding
this thread, and here's the deal, everyone is entitled to their own prounciations. So
there really isn't an exact pronounciation unless you want to ask LJS personally
for it.
But you can find out what the meaning of
your character name is through Strange
Power.
