List Party FAQ

Please note that this FAQ only applies when there is a List Party going on.

If none of the answers below answers your own question, please don't hesitate to email the Elders or the Weerul Council at their respective addresses of nw_elders@topica.com or the nw_weerien_council@egroups.com.

 WHAT IS A LIST PARTY?

A list party is basically, a party for the Night World mailing list. Everyone gets together, in character, and role-play as if we are all going to this profile. It is a weekend long role-playing game that involves what happens at the party. So you can wander in anytime you wish, and talk to the other people in the club as your character may in the Night World. Basically, what goes on in the list party is like writing a part of an ongoing story. You have to stay in the third person, and remember that you are only speaking for YOUR character. And in return, others will chime in and respond.

For example,

"Cassie smiled as she walked into the clearing. Her hair fell down around her shoulders and her eyes brightened as she saw Adam talking to a few people. She walked over and slipped her hand into his and smiled."

And then Adam in HIS post can respond to that however he may wish. There are so many people in this club, and that means the list party is going to be rather packed. So if you see something, or something interesting, just walk over and join in!

 WHAT ARE WE CELEBRATING?

We will inform you of the theme and the reason before the list party occurs. The last one we had was for the celebration of Cassie's birthday, the two-year anniversary of the Night World, and the Winter Solstice.

 WHEN'S THE PARTY?

Again, we will inform you prior to the party. As the time zones varies around the world, you can check out the conversion at this site http://www.solvithightech.co.kr/worldtime.htm

 WHAT CAN'T I DO?

There are a few rules with list parties, because they can very easily get out of hand.

a) You can't make anyone do anything else. There will also be no trying to run another person's character in a direction where the creator doesn't want to take the character. Private communications between characters and shared plotting will ensure everyone is happy with the story line. We all have each other's email addresses and there is no reason why two or more people cannot communicate with one another. However, if a character feels that they are being power played, they reserve the right to ignore the post in question, and that post be disregarded, as were the actions the characters were made to do. If a member is found to be power playing a lot, we won't hesitate to unsub them.

b) Keep it clean! There will be no raping, no wandering with a bazooka and blowing everyone up, no wandering off into a room and having a lot of sex, and watch the language! Bear in mind that we have people ranging from 12 to their late twenties. Would you want your 12 year old daughter or sister be spending time on a list that's filled with bad influences?

c) When the party is over, it means it's over. There will be no continuation of any sorts. And if you really enjoyed the party, email Katherine or Cassie so that they can sub you to our official Role-Playing Game list.

d) This is mainly for the members on the RPG list:

You will be playing only one character – the character being your MEMBER NAME. Interesting people like Trenan Calhoun or Kaelan Flynn might wander in and make things interesting, but please remember that the RP and the LP are totally different and unconnected elements. You can carry over your relationships, and those of you who also play your own soulmate can carry them in, but try to keep the RP plotlines out of the LP, so that the rest of the club can have just as much fun.

HOW DO I POST TO THE LIST?

Please note that members are only subbed to the list when there is a party going on. After it ends, you will be unsubbed from it, so please don't send any emails to the list once it's over.

When there is a party,  send the email to this address, nw_listparty@egroups.com

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NW_RPG AND THE LIST PARTY ANYWAY?

To put it into simple words, basically the nw_rpg is a list party that never stops. Members play their characters and some carry a few others. There are plotlines and involved stories that continue 24/7. However, there is a 3-post limit per character per day to cut down on any excess mail. It has been running strong for over a year and a half now, and new players are always welcome, thought the list can get hard to get in at times. For more information on the RPG, check out their website.

The list party on the other hand will last only for the days stated, and after that, everyone else will be unsubbed. Also, there won't be any definite story lines or any post limit, although we request everyone to post with restrain. We don't want anyone to complain of any mail overloads.

Also, NO ONE LINERS!

  CAN I BRING A DATE?

Yes, you can bring a date. And if you *must* bring in a date in the form of a character from another book, movie or whatnot, limit it to one!

You cannot bring a date in the form of another character from a LJS book if the character already has a owner. Example: I want to bring Ash Redfern as my date. That can't happen because Ash is being played by another real life member. If you really want to bring someone from an LJS book, you can email the person and ask him / her out for a date :)

During list parties, a member will request that you send her / her a notice of who you're bringing to the party before you actually attend. He / She will give you permission as to whether you can bring the date or not. The reason behind this is to prevent anyone from bringing in the same character and avoid embaressement. Look out for future emails from that member when a party approaches.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

Usually, there will be a dress code. We will inform you of it before the party as well.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU THINK I NEED TO KNOW?

Remember to have plenty of fun! Creativity is the basis of the game, and the more creative we get, the more fun it can be. So do whatever you would like, within reason of course.
