Chain letters are highly annoying and a
serious waste of bandwidth. And so this section was created for all those people who
simply do not understand that what chain letters are, and for those who do, and yet still
insist on sending them.
(Written by Sylvia Weald)
For future reference, WHENEVER
you receive something in the mail that has been forwarded to many people (as in at least
99.9% of the time) and asks you to do the same IS a chainletter. This includes but is not
limited to
Scrollers
Snowball fights
AOL reinstating hourly
rates for all users
Bill Gates giving a
million $ to every person who's email is on a forward
Long distance Internet
charges
Basically anything
that tries to scare you into forwarding it or plays upon your emotions is more than likely
a chain letter, even if it isn't as obvious as those obnoxious scrolling "make a
wish" ones. Same goes to virus warnings.
(written by Cassie Blake)
Just a reminder to all,
whether or not you can get a virus from an email and enough evidence from tons of people
who work indepth with the Net and technology suggests you can't get a virus unless you
open an attachment and save it. The warnings DO NOT belong on the mailing list. They are
considered a form of chain letter and not allowed. You want to warn people? Do it
personally, not through the mailing list.
Yet if you're
still not sure what you have is a chain letter, email it to the Elders, and we will decide whether it's appropriate
for the list, or not.
