"I can't believe it. You're sure? I'm sorry, okay, she's right here I'll tell her, thanks Thierry." Eric hung up the phone.
"So? What did Thierry say?" Thea asked agitated the phone call had been short but Thierry wouldn't have called unless it was important.
"I'm sorry Thea… Grandma Harman was killed… she was attacked by shapeshifters." Eric said quietly.
Thea's eyes flew open in shock, "Goddess, NO! She was attacked? How could the First House of the shapeshifters let his happen!" Silent tears rolled down Thea's face.
"It wasn't the First House's fault… Some one woke up a dragon. Some of the shapeshifters were following him instead of the First House." Eric looked at Thea with caring eyes.
"Dragon… oh Goddess how can there be a dragon, I mean…"
"Don't worry Thea, Keller's team took care of the dragon… But Thierry wants us to come to Las Vegas, the third wild power's joining our side… the witch child's been found."
"When's the next flight out of Cape Cod?" Thea asked quickly wiping the tears away. Grandma Harman wouldn't have wanted Thea to be sad.
"Thierry booked us on the 2:00. He says if we leave in ten minutes, we could make it. I think he said Blaise would be there to meet us." Eric replied getting up to get his suitcase.
"I guess this safe house was getting boring any way." She sighed and walked to her room to get her stuff.
*****
"Thea? Are you home?" Darcy was standing in front of the small cottage in Cape Cod. She walked around back. "You said we could talk today…" Darcy muttered. Her silky black hair reached her hips. Her creamy complexion set of her hair perfectly. She was dressed in a skin-tight red top, and hip hugging designer jeans.
She reached the back door and knocked a few times. No one answered. All the lights in the house were off. She peered in a dark window, and then she heard a low voice behind her.
"They left in quite a hurry. Must have seen you coming…"
"Oh, Shut up Hunter! I thought you were going to let me take care of this!" Darcy turned around angrily.
"Just checking up on you…" Hunter Redfern replied.
"I don't need to be check up on!" Darcy replied through her teeth. "If you ever want me to complete this assignment, then LEAVE ME ALONE!"
"But my dear little witch, you are going to produce my heir, of course I'm going to be careful. Since Quinn, so stupidly joined Circle Daybreak I need an heir more than ever." He picked up a lock of Darcy's hair and stroked it.
She glared. "I'll give you your heir that's part of the deal but if I can't make friends with Thea, I can't get the spell from the Harmans, and without the spell, you won't have a heir, therefore LEAVE ME ALONE!"
"As you wish…" he dropped her hair and backed away. "One thing," he said as he was leaving, "They went to Las Vegas."
"Las Vegas?" Darcy questioned but Hunter was already around the corner.

"Blessed be. It's so nice to see you again Aradia!" Thea said entering the conference room.
"Blessed be Thea. I'm very glad you could come on such short notice. I'd like you do meet Iliana Harman, the one from the hearth that still holds a spark." Aradia replied.
Iliana tried to make a sarcastic glare but just smiled, "Hi, I'm Iliana. It's nice to meet another one of my cousins."
"Unity, this is Eric Ross." Thea replied gesturing to Eric at her side.
The room was filled with people, Circle Daybreak members from all over. Humans, Witches, Shapeshifters, and Vampires were gathered together. Thea recognized some of the faces but most were new. At the front of the auditorium was the head of Circle Daybreak, Thierry and Lady Hannah, Ash Redfern, Gillian Lennox and David Blackburn, James Redfern and Poppy, Rashel Jordan and Quinn, Morgead and Jez Redfern, Delos and Maggie Neely, and Winnie Arlin, Nissa Johnson, Keller and Galen Drache.
Blaise walked in behind them, "Goddess was it impossible to find a parking spot… their putting up the wards, so if anyone shows up late they'll be welcomed quite pleasantly by being knocked flat on their backs and attacked by a couple shapeshifters."
"You're just making that up Blaise." Thea replied.
"So?" Blaise answered nonchalantly.
Iliana giggled childishly. Thierry was standing up. "Better go get our seats…" Eric said seeing that Thierry was getting started. The five of them turned and started walking to take their seats at the front of the room.

Darcy had had the hardest time convincing the werewolf outside to let her in. When she rushed in the door the meeting was about to start.
"Thea!" she shouted spotting her.
"Darcy? Oh Goddess I completely forgot that you were meeting me yesterday! How did you find me?" Thea said apologetically.
"Oh it was a little hard, but I went to Grandma Harman's store and asked if anyone had seen you. They said to come here." Darcy replied.
Thierry had gotten up and was about to speak, without saying anything Thea motioned Darcy to sit with her in the front of the room. Darcy quickly agreed. When they were all settled, Thierry started speaking.
"I know this is a very dangerous situation, all three of the wild powers in the same place, at the same time. But we've put wards around this building, we're all protected. This meeting is about the events on the night of solstice ceremony. As most of you know, the Nightworld woke a dragon. And then tried to use it to umm… assassinate Iliana."
Darcy looked over to the slight blond, she was almost positive was Iliana, who was sitting by the prince, Galen, and who she assumed was Keller the prince's soulmate. Hunter had informed Darcy about all the major Circle Daybreak figures.
"On the topic, another reason we are meeting, is because we've found Iliana, the third wild power." Iliana stood slightly blushing.
"And the witch child!" a spunky witch sitting by Keller added.
Thierry smiled at the witch, "Yes, as Winnie so graciously pointed out she is ALSO the witch child."
Thierry went on talking about their strategies in fighting Hunter and the rest of the Nightworld.
Darcy had trouble listening. When Thierry mentioned what he thought Hunter was going to do, Darcy almost laughed. *Hunter would NEVER do anything like that*
"And finally we like to announce the First House of the shapeshifters has formally joined us. There was a blood tie."
There was a loud cheer from the crowd. Darcy glanced at everyone that had come. *Goddess every important Circle Daybreak member… a hit man's dream, please say their having another meeting! *
"As everyone knows, we only have such large meetings when we find a wild powers, so thank you all for coming and we'll see you hopefully soon."
*Oh GREAT*
Then she decided to whisper to Thea, "You guys never meet, except when you find a wild power?"
Thea replied as everyone started to get up, "Oh we have private meetings, Eric and I don't go to all of them, we travel a lot. But all the Circle members don't get to come... I might be able to bring you to one just to introduce you and stuff. So I guess you decided to join us?"
Darcy smiled, "Well it's better than being on Hunter's side. I want to be neutral… but no, I HAVE to take a side." *What a whopping lie*
"Well I hope the Circle will grown on you and you'll get to like it. I'll ask Thierry about you coming to a meeting. Do you have a place to stay?" Thea asked like a big sister.
Darcy nodded and Thea replied, "I have to go but umm… how about I'll meet you at the Harman Store tomorrow, let say 2:00?"
"Great I'll see you there." Darcy replied, a million ideas going through her head. She needed to report to Hunter.
"Alright, bye." Thea said and walked over to where the head of Circle Daybreak was talking.
Darcy turned and walked out of the room. She got in the car she had brought and started driving to the cheap motel where she was spending the night.
*****
"I don't know Thea, if she's not even sure she wants to be a member, I don't think we can trust her. I know she's related to you but we have to be extremely careful." Thierry was talking to Thea about bringing Darcy to a meeting.
Usually Thea would have given up but she wanted to pursue this, "Thierry I trust her, she's my cousin, I think that if she feels excepted she'll fully support Circle Daybreak."
Thierry looked torn, Hannah had been off to the side not really involved, then she intervened, "Thierry, remember when I found out the truth and went to you mansion and waited for you. Thea and everyone else welcomed me so warmly I felt so much better. I'm sure Darcy would feel the same way. Please Thierry?" She looked into her soulmate's eyes lovingly.
"Goddess I can't deny you anything Hannah. You can bring her to the one in about a week. We're meeting at the usual building…" Thierry trailed off and put his arms around Hannah. They stayed interlocked and seemed to forget about Thea.
Watching this made Thea feel a void in herself, she searched for Eric. He was across the room talking to Iliana. Thea went over to talk to him.
"…So they give us the cup of Lethe, but it ends up Blaise had switched it with ice tea sometime before, we never knew where it went…" the air was ringing with Iliana's sweet childish laughter. "Oh see here she is now. I was just talking about the time they almost erased our memory…" Thea and Eric laughed.
"So you guys are soulmates… that's so wonderful." Iliana said dreamily.
"Yeah, it's great, and I'm sure you'll find yours really soon." Thea smiled. "Are you sick of the body guards and safe house's yet?"
Iliana frowned slightly. "It's becoming annoying, but right now I'm at the same one with James and Poppy. So, it isn't so bad." Iliana looked over and saw Poppy and James were ready to go. "I guess I need to get going, it was so nice to meet you Thea, and you too Eric." Iliana seemed to float away.
"I missed you," Eric said.
"I was across the room for ten minutes." Thea smiled then admitted, "I missed you too. Let's go home."

Darcy walked into the dingy motel room. Las Vegas wasn't all glamour. She didn't know where to reach Hunter, but that was okay. He'd contact her soon enough.
She stretched out on the bedspread it reeked of some terrible stench Darcy didn't want to identify. She closed her eyes and thought about what she was going to do next. How could she ever get the spell from the Harmans?
"Tough day my dear?" Hunter said stepping out of a shadow.
"I guess I'm getting use to you sneaking around, because I wasn't surprised for you to pop up. And yes it was a rather… strenuous day. How did you know I'd be here anyway?"
"I had spies follow you. Though, they strangely lost you for a while. Then when they found you they followed you to this rat hole."
"I'm just being inconspicuous." Darcy replied defensively. "Okay so here's the scoop, they have no idea what your plans are, I'm buttering up Thea, she's probably trying to convince the heads of CD to let me come to a private meeting as we speak."
"Good work Darcy." Hunter asked thickly. He sat on the bed and leaned close to Darcy. "You know we will eventually have to… if I'm ever going to get my heir."
"Well that isn't right now is it Hunter?" Darcy said disgusted pulling away.
"I'll be in touch… get the spell and get on Thea's good side, I'll do the rest." Hunter spoke and then was gone.
"What an asshole." Darcy muttered. She decided she should get some sleep before going to the Harman store the next day. Disgusted, she picked up the sheets on the bed and tried to fall asleep.
*****
"So want a tour?" Thea offered.
"Sure." Darcy replied. She took off her sunglasses so she could see the store better.
"This is the assortment of herbs, almost any kind you can think of…" Thea went on showing Darcy all the different sections of the store.
"What's this?" Darcy asked curiously pointing to a door, she turned the knob it was locked.
"We keep spells in that room. Some of the oldest on record." Thea bragged. Thea finished the tour. "So I was thinking that maybe you could stay with Eric and me…"
"Thea!" They both turned around and saw Blaise. "Umm… we kind of have to go. Family stuff." Blaise glanced at Darcy suspiciously.
"Blaise this is Darcy, she's one of our distant cousins." Thea explained.
"Oh in that case Aradia called a meeting of the witches something about Grandma Harman…" Blaise replied quickly.
"We have to go now?" Thea looked at Darcy, "I'm sorry would you mind, I'd be back in what?" Thea glanced at Blaise, "a couple of hours."
Blaise nodded.
"Oh sure, don't worry about me, I haven't had lunch anyway. Go." Darcy replied then smiled.
"Okay, I'll lock up." The three of them walked out and Thea locked the door behind her. Then she shoved the key in her pocket. Darcy glanced down and saw the end of the key chain sticking out.
Just then, they heard a loud shout Blaise and Thea looked. Darcy using the opportunity carefully pulled the key out of Thea's pocked. Putting it in her own just as quickly.
"Let's go." Blaise replied.
"Bye." Darcy muttered and walked down the sidewalk she turned a corner and waited a few minutes. Then backtracked to the store. She pulled the key out of her pocket and opened the door.
It was silent inside the store. Darcy quickly moved toward the locked door. *Here goes nothing* she stuck the key in the lock, it fit and then turned.
Darcy let out her breath rapidly.
Behind the door was a room no bigger than a large closet. There were several bookcases, fully packed with thick books. Darcy ran her fingers over the leather spines of the books. She walked all the way in and saw a wooden box. *What's this? *
She pulled the top of the box and inside it were several old scrolls. She glanced through them. There was nothing important.
Darcy carefully put the scrolls away and moved the box back into its corner, while doing so her hand brushed against an uneven board.
"A secret hiding space?" Darcy spoke out loud.
She slid her fingers under the board and it came up. Underneath it lay an old and worn book. Darcy reached for it.
She glanced through it looking for the right spell. Some where in the middle she found what she was looking for:
"This spell is forbidden to every witch. It is only on record for educational purposes, it is the spell that Maya used to become the first vampire…"
*****
"I must have left the key somewhere…" Thea repeated.
Blaise looked lazily back at her… "Great."
Just then, Darcy came around the corner. "Oh, good I caught you…" this was outside the store when I was passing by." Darcy held up the key.
Thea smiled relieved. Blaise looked Darcy over suspiciously.
"Well I have to get going…" Darcy said quickly about to leave.
"Oh wait Darcy. Come to the store a week from tomorrow, around 6. We're going to have a meeting and you can come too."
"Ok I probably won't see you until then I have some... things I need to take care of. Bye Thea, you too Blaise." She causally waved then turned the corner.
"What trusting idiots." Darcy murmured. Blaise looked Darcy's way but couldn't understand what she had said.
*****
Darcy quickened her steps, she need to get to Hunter as soon as possible. She patted her pocket lightly. Folded neatly was a copy of Maya's spell.
*Those stupid idiots just let me walk away with it… and even more, they invited me to one of their meetings! *
A dark smile reached Darcy's mouth. It was going to be a beautiful night.

A week had pasted and now Darcy, Thea, and Blaise were all on their way to the CD meeting. Darcy seemed quiet, but Thea didn't ask any questions. Blaise was behind the wheel. Gazing distrustfully at Darcy.
They arrived in silence. Blaise dropped Thea and Darcy off and parked the car. Thea and Darcy rode the elevator up to what seem like a conference room. Aradia was there to meet them.
"Unity, Darcy, Thea." Aradia replied with her usual complacency.
"Blessed be Aradia." Thea replied. Darcy looked around the room distracted.
"Oh yes, blessed be Aradia." Darcy replied briskly.
Over the next few minutes, everyone else arrived. Thierry directed for everyone to be seated. Darcy sat next to Thea and Aradia.
Thierry started speaking. He was less formal tonight then he had been at the general meeting. "Alright does anyone have any new business to discuss…"
"I do," Darcy replied abruptly. "I want to thank everyone, Thea especially for inviting me and welcoming me so completely." Thea smiled everyone clapped.
"I also want to say you're all miserable trusting fools." Darcy smiled showing long sharp vampire teeth.
Confused and slightly panicked Thea replied, "What are you talking about Darcy?"
"Oh nothing dear cousin. You'll find out soon enough. For right now… sweet dreams."
Still unsure Thea looked around her she saw smoke was coming in from under the door. Jez and Morgead who were closest to the door were slumped over in their seats.
She tried to think clearly but she had the strongest urge to just sleep. Unable to avoid it she embraced the silky darkness.
*****
Thea was trying to open her eyes, but they wouldn't budge. It was like glue was keeping them together. Then she felt a hard blow to her stomach. Her eyes opened up faster than she could imagine. In front of her was Darcy. Dressed in her usual dark colors.
"Good you're up. I was beginning to think you would NEVER wake up. And that would be a terrible shame, for you to die so soon."
Thea was revolted. She gazed around her, all her friends were tied and gagged only a few were awake. Then she saw Eric across the room. Her heart sank. He hadn't woken up yet. Thea struggled with her own bonds but the nylon rope only dug deeper into her skin.
Thea looked to her side Aradia, she was awake, not yet completely alert.
From across the room Thea heard Morgead shout. "It's Darcy right… what to you want with us?"
A tall figure entered the room. "I'm the one that wants you all. Too bad, there was only one wild power at this meeting. Guess you knew better than to risk having them all in the same place. But I still have one." Hunter picked Jez up by her hair. She looked like a rag doll. Her arms and legs hung listlessly at her sides. "If only it had been my grandson Delos… I could have talked some sense into his little head, well another time then." He dropped Jez roughly, she fell to the ground with a sickening thud. Morgead tried to reach her but she was clear across the room.
"I should have known…" Thea said horrified.
Aradia was becoming more awake, "Darcy… I couldn't remember what it meant the first time I heard it, but now I remember. It means 'Dark One'."
Darcy smiled. "Bingo! My mother was I guess somewhat of a prophetess. She must have known what I was capable of when I was born. Unfortunately, she died in childbirth, her last word was Darcy. So my father, not knowing what it meant named me it. It wasn't until I was thirteen when Hunter took me in, he told me my real destiny and what 'Darcy' really means."
Hunter smiled wickedly at Darcy. He walked around the room, then stopped when he reached Quinn. "Darcy of course is going to replace my idiotic heirs. I was going to give Quinn the second highest command after the millenium then he converted. I was so surprised and slightly relieved when I found Delos, but then he found HIS soulmate! HA!"
Quinn was fully conscious he glared at Hunter.
"But that doesn't matter I have a son on the way. He's MY blood, MY genes. And he's full vampire, not like my half witch daughters."
"That's right." Darcy agreed stroking her stomach. "I should be careful, I have a baby on the way."
"How's that possible?" Quinn asked, "I know for a fact Darcy isn't lamia, and made vampires can't have kids."
Darcy smiled wickedly. "But my dear Son. You know I am you stepmother now. I am neither a made vampire nor lamia… I'm an original."
Everyone was awake now. Everyone had heard Darcy.
Aradia was shocked, "You used…"
"Maya's spell?" Darcy finished, "Yes. And it worked like a charm! There's now going to be an even better line of lamia. Hunter and my children will be the most powerful vampires around."
"You're dreaming…" Jez spoke up. "Hunter wouldn't let anyone have more power than himself. He'll kill you as soon as you give him what he wants… a son."
Hunter replied to Jez's remark. "Oh I would never hurt Darcy. She's my wife, and I don't want one son… I want 10 or 20 and a couple daughters too. And Darcy will give me those children."
Thierry looked Hunter straight in the face. "I hope you have a long and prosperous life together."
Then there was a crash. Windows broke. There was an army of Circle Daybreak members. With one goal, to save their leaders.
In the confusion, Darcy and Hunter go away. When everyone was safely back at Thierry's they started talking.
No one blamed Thea for what had happened. But she blamed herself.
"I should have known…" Thea mumbled almost incoherently. She hadn't said anything else since they'd escaped. Eric put his arms around her and she collapsed sobbing.
"It's okay, Thea. I love you." Eric held Thea even tighter.
Thea just repeated over and over again. "I should have known…"
